Eternal Focus

Psalm 94:19 Amplified Bible (AMP) “When my anxious thoughts multiply within me, Your comforts delight me.”

So many thoughts and feelings flood our thoughts and minds on a daily basis. We become anxious and upset when a spouse or loved one struggles, and we want to fix them. We are anxious about our finances, job security, or the economy. We can even become stuck on everything wrong with the people around us, the people that we love, and slip into criticizing mode. Many times, God is trying to teach us joy and contentment in the midst of the difficulties or anxious thoughts of our lives. Try to look at the big picture of what God is doing in your life and the character your difficulties are producing in you.

Many times if we would just choose to rise above our difficulties and anxieties and fix our eyes on Jesus and the fullness of God’s love, our mountains, problems or anxieties will suddenly seem like insignificant molehills.

Look at Paul. Though he had been shipwrecked, stoned, imprisoned, and had the chopping block to look forward to, He rose above His seemingly hopeless situation, fixed His eyes on Jesus, and used his God-given gifts and wrote half the books of the NT, which would inspire millions for centuries.

For my family; my wife, baby, and I, we are having to learn to be content in the midst of difficult times. We are currently not able to live in our home while we are having a mold problem remediated. We have had to replace much of the floor and have to deep clean everything with bleach. It is quite stressful as we are not able to enjoy the comfort and privacy of our home.

Yet, I have had to tell myself that though it may be difficult, annoying, and uncertain right now, I must fix my hopes on the glory that is to come. I must realize that we will be done eventually, probably sooner than we will realize. We will be done, and our sweat, work, toil, and labor will pay off as we will be able to once again walk into a comfortable, private, home. Actually, when we walk into our home after all the work is done, it will be mold free and will no longer be a health hazard for us and our baby. So our present work and labor is producing something for us, much better than we ever had.

So, for the present situation that is driving you nuts and you constantly stress over, rest assured that God will never forsake you and He is carrying you through the storm, one day your struggles will be over, and the current stressor will no longer exist. Whatever your difficult situation or feeling may be, focus on God and His goodness. Whatever you focus on is what is magnified.

2 Corinthians 4:17 Amplified Bible (AMP) For our momentary, light distress [this passing trouble] is producing for us an eternal weight of glory [a fullness] beyond all measure [surpassing all comparisons, a transcendent splendor and an endless blessedness]!
