The Race of Faith

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12:25-28

See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven, whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I shake not only the earth, but also heaven.” Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.

God is speaking to you right now as you read his Word. The Word of God is a sword and continually goes forth, piercing the darkness and calling us to a higher standard of holiness. The question is, are you listening to His voice? He is calling you to Himself, to a place of holiness.

Fix your eyes on Him, launch out in faith, and run this race of life with endurance. The race that is run in faith will lead you on the paths the Father has already ordained for you to walk in, not your own path (Ephesians 2:10). What weights are you trying to hold onto while trying to run this race of faith? We are called to let go of every weight and sin. For Christ followers, holiness must be an all-consuming desire and we must seek to die to our own selfish interests and desires.

Jesus is calling you to lay aside the sin you have held unto for years. He is calling you to forgive, repent of every ounce of bitterness, pursue peace with your offender, and lay aside those little habitual sins you keep in your back pocket that you don’t want anyone to know about. Allow the love of God to penetrate your hardened heart and cleanse you of all hurt and defilement, so that you will be unshakable in the center of and the fullness of the love of Christ! Are you listening to Him?
