Staying Focused

November 28, 2017 // William Boggs

As Christ followers, you and I are like strangers in this world. By faith, we should be living from an entirely different realm of thinking. Our real life, or new life, is hidden in Christ, high above the troubles of this world. We should not live from a place of brokenness and defeat. Rather, we should be daily living from a higher place, a place of peace and victory.

We are on the winning side. Jesus won the ultimate, final battle, when He died on the cross and purchased our salvation. This doesn’t mean we can live life on our own terms, but we have nothing to fear. Every day we should be living from a place of the abundant life and freedom in Christ. So, why do we so often feel defeated or worn down with the cares of this world?

What happens is our focus shifts. We step down from a place of seeking things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Instead of keeping our focus on Christ, it shifts to those hurtful words and offenses, or how a parent, spouse, or sibling may not have greeted us the best way. An amazing thing to note is most of the time the issues we struggle with are centered around our family members, or the people closest to us.

You need to know that your true identity is from another realm: a realm of Glory and of Jesus Christ. When you step out of that realm and take your eyes off of Jesus, your heart can become angry, bitter, and resentful. I challenge you today to re-focus your eyes on Christ. If you share with Christ in the resurrection of the dead, and have died to the things of this world, then why do you continue to live in those issues? Step into your new, true, God-given identity in Christ.

Choose to start living today by a new level of faith that Jesus is longing to empower you with! Stephen Furtick writes in his book, Sun Stand Still: “You’re about to discover that faith is not a drug to sedate you through a life you hate. It’s a force to transport you to another realm of reality.”

When you truly live your life by faith in God, and have truly dealt with the pain of the past, you will live a life of freedom. You will live from a new reality of faith in God that others will not understand. That reality has you seated in Heavenly places with Christ Jesus, far above all the trials, problems, hurts, critical words, and anxious thoughts of this world.

“Therefore if you have been raised with Christ [to a new life, sharing in His resurrection from the dead], keep seeking the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value]. For you died [to this world], and your [new, real] life is hidden with Christ in God.” (Colossians 3:1-3 AMP)
