The Healing Process

November 3, 2017 // Denise Boggs

The healing process is much like clearing out a flower garden that has been overtaken by weeds and debris for a long time. The weeds must be pulled, the stones and debris removed, before anything will grow. You may look at a broken relationship like an overgrown garden and think, “This is impossible! Nothing can grow here!” Yet, nothing is impossible with God! Once the work begins, He is there with you to bring life into wastelands and desert places.

Working through heart issues is laborious. Like digging up the flower garden, you will get your hands dirty and your knees will be sore, but the end result will be worth it. The reward is eternal and the beautiful flowers will bloom forever.

“For the Lord will comfort Zion [in her captivity]; He will comfort all her ruins.
And He will make her wilderness like Eden,
And her desert like the garden of the Lord;
Joy and gladness will be found in her,
Thanksgiving and the voice of a melody.”
(Isaiah 51:3)

I want to help you specifically in the area of weeds. Many people have had weeds growing in their garden so long that they think the weeds are supposed to remain. This is not true! Once you identify a weed, it must be pulled out by the root. If a weed is left, it will choke out the life of the new flowers.

So, let’s look at weeds in your life that need to be pulled out. You may have someone in your life right now that acts like a weed. They come by when they aren’t invited, they take over every conversation, and they criticize, poke, and joke around until you feel defeated and give up. This type of person can choke the life out of you, especially when you are working through hard issues and trying to grow. A weed can also be unrepented bitterness or unforgiveness. You may still be holding onto unforgiveness from years and years ago. Today, God wants you to forgive that person, or people, and repent of all bitterness.

A flower can’t grow with a weed wrapped around it. You won’t be able to heal and grow as long as you allow people into your life that choke the life out of you. Ask God to show you the weeds and the stones that must go so your heart can be clean, clear, and blossom with new life.

“He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds
[healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].”
(Psalm 147:3)
